Aquatec's Frequently Asked Questions

NES Aquatec are a register Firestone Building Products provider

What is your product?

Firestone rubber roofing membrane Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is a synthetic rubber membrane which:

  • * Can stretch up to 300% elongation, allowing for expansion and contraction in the building where it is installed
  • * Is virtually unaffected by Ozone and UV radiation, therefore far longer lasting than bitumised products
  • * Does not crack tear or split
  • * Is manufactured in various sizes of sheet greatly reducing the number of joints required in a large roof

Is this a new product?
No, the first synthetic rubber roofing membrane was developed in the U.S.A. almost 50 years ago and original roofs are still functioning. This suggests a product life expectancy well in excess of 50 Years. Over 2 Billion square metres of membrane have been laid worldwide, from the heat of the Middle east to the cold of the Arctic.

Is EPDM Expensive?
No, although slightly more expensive than traditional bitumised felt, it compares very favourably in price, with other higher quality flat roofing products.

Why should I choose Aquatec?
We are a long established company who are Licensed installers for Firestone Building Products. All our fitters are fully trained by Firestone at their purpose built training centre and are supervised, until proficient, by more senior members of staff.

Can I walk on it?
Yes, EPDM is designed for maintenance access. Should you require regular foot traffic or patios etc. there are various methods of covering the membrane with more durable finishes, ie. Paving slabs, purpose made walkways, decking etc for patios walk ways and sun decks.

If it's so good why havent I heard of it before?
Until recently this system was only available to industrial customers, but has now been made available to the Domestic and Commercial markets.

"Please pass on my personal thanks to the two men who completed the work. They were very cheerful and courteous, explained the processes involved, repaired a water-damaged section and cleared up thoroughly. It is a pleasant change to see such a diligent workforce."
